Types of wood
Light brown to a dark tan. Sapwood and heartwood have similar colors and grain patterns. Sapwood tends to be lighter in color. Oak is an open grain wood and is extremely strong and durable. The classic finish is a “Golden Oak” stain with a clear finish such as polyurethane.
Cherry is a medium density hardwood, which starts out very light and gradually mellows to a rich warm reddish golden brown. Quarter sawn, cherry can reveal a beautiful figure and occasionally some birds eye figure. Cherry has always been considered the choice wood for fine furniture. Antiques made of Cherry bring extremely high prices, because Cherry has always held its value over time.
